PedipeaceThe Pedipeace Movement - Democracy at crossroads Three things struck the ud team at the peace protests on Feb 15th and 22nd(1) walking around London is really nice without traffic (2) we'll need to do much more than take a pleasant stroll in the park if we want to find real solutions to the world's problems and stop this endless "war on terror" (3) We need constructive dialogue. We need democracy. With millions of people protesting all over the world... The call for peace was loud and clear for all to hear. Sadly, but predictably, unelected Bush II, and his buddy Blair in the UK, chose not to listen. They stood shoulder to shoulder against the UN, and ignored the biggest mass demonstrations the world has ever seen. <strike>Our leaders aren't listening to us</strike>Our opressors continue to ignore us, and democracy has been left at the crossroads, not sure where to turn. So what next? The Pedipeace Movement says the answer is to Pedestrianise for Peace!. Let's choose a day, and on that day, not have cars travel through city centres, but form circles at crossroads and have a dialogue about various issues. It doesn't have to be a dialogue of words. At some crossroads, we would have wonderful dance and music, and at others people handing out free food. We could discuss nuclear disarmament at Oxford Circus, and Palestine at Piccadilly. The idea is to have people coming into the centre of circles to express themselves, to define problems, or to propose solutions; basically, to begin constructive dialogue and to re-affirm democracy. The reduction of car use would also help solve the real problem behind Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL) - the hopeless addiction of our economies to fossil fuel.
