What Are Quality Quids?

QualityQuids are Better Than Pounds.

They support CoolProjects and make GoodShopping easy, as well as serving many important functions for social enterprises, socially responsible investors, and ethical shoppers.

Quality Quids are:

• a fundraising community currency
• a loyalty system for community groups, co-ops, green businesses and the social economy at large
• a multiplier of wealth, creating a greater positive impact for every pound spent
• a tool for facilitating investment in social enterprises
• a currency for social enterprises to trade in on a mutual credit basis - increasing the levels of cooperation in the sector through creating a currency in which supply of low-cost credit is sufficient.
• a method of building a commons of natural resources (land etc.), productive assets (equiptment etc.) and infrastructure (eg. live/work space, wirelessNetworks, qualityQuids etc.). collectively owned and distributed by udoo members.

Through all these methods Quality Quids strengthen the social economy make GoodShopping easy.

How Does It Work?

Each time you exchange rusty old Pounds for shiny new Quality Quids, 10% are donated to CoolProjects of your choice (via registered charity the SustainableLondonTrust).

The remaining 90% is invested in the LondonRebuildingSociety's MutualAidFund to build the udoo commons and to provide on-going support for SocialEnterprise in London.

Where Can I Spend My Quality Quids?

In return for the investment and support they receive as members of the QualityQuids Network, ethicalBusinesses and socialEnterprises accross the UK will agree to accept Quality Quids for their goods and services, just like Pounds.

This means you can spend your Quality Quids, just like Pounds, at all the best socialEnterprises and ethicalBusinesses in London and the UK: support organic and fairTrade produce at organic pubs, bars and cafes; enjoy low-cost healthy eating by joining a box scheme and shopping at farmersMarkets; get access to low-cost ecological cleaning product and green stationary with co-operative puchasing; help the poor and disadvantaged, improve the environment, and revitalise London's local economies and artistic communities.

Why do Individuals want to buy Quality Quids?

At the simplest level Quality Quids are like a book token - they make a great present. If you dont know what to buy someone for Christmas 2004, buy them a voucher which can be spent in a whole host of ethical enterprises in London and around the UK. As well as making a great present by buying the vouchers you will be supporting ethical enterprise through investing your pounds until the vouchers are redeemed.

Why do social enterprises want to accept Quality Quids?

Through accepting and earning Quality Quids organisations:

1. Get priority access to the investment funds placed with the London Rebuilding Society Mutual fund
2. Receive free marketing through the Quality Quids network
3. Initially enterprises can get redeem their QQs for 90% of their face value in pounds.

Why? In order to increase initial confidence in the currency amongst sceptical business people. While the money will initially offer 90% cash back to businesses this percentage will fall as increasing percentages of the incoming cash can be efficiently invested in the member organisations in order to leverage increased acceptance and begin to back the currency by the goods its members produce.

Membership of the currency will be open to all individuals, but only certain organisations making it an open organisation with moral purpose.

An important aspect that we must define clearly here is the democratic/decision making structure of the organisation which takes the form of the member agreement
